Put your phasers on stun and prepare for a musical adventure
of intergalactic proportions! The Toronto
Symphony Orchestra presents STAR
TREK: THE MUSIC for two shows only at Roy Thomson Hall,
June 20- 21, 2008 at 8pm. The concert will be hosted by special
guests John de Lancie ('Q'
in Star Trek: Deep Space 9; Star Trek: The Next Generation;
Star Trek: Voyager) and Robert
Picardo ('Dr. Lewis Zimmerman'
in Star Trek: Voyager; Star Trek: Deep Space 9).
Led by acclaimed Cincinnati Pops Orchestra Conductor
and frequent TSO Guest Conductor
Erich Kunzel, the TSO
will perform some of STAR TREK'S
greatest music, including Alexander Courage's
iconic theme from the original TV series, as well as multi-Emmy
Award winner Jerry Goldsmith's
majestic opening theme for Star Trek:
Voyager, the Klingon battle theme, and the opening music
from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
The concert will also feature works by Cliff
Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered
Country), Leonard Rosenman
(Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home )
Dennis McCarthy (Star
Trek: The Next Generation; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Star
Trek: Generations) and James Horner
(Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan; Star
Trek III: The Search for Spock).
The STAR TREK franchise
is one of the biggest cultural phenomena of modern times. The
original 1966 TV series spawned five subsequent television series,
ten feature films (with an eleventh currently in production),
dozens of computer and video games, hundreds of novels and fan
stories, annual conventions, a profusion of merchandise and
even a themed attraction in Las Vegas. Part of STAR
TREK'S success can be attributed to its compelling music,
which often carried as much emotional weight as the script and
called to mind epic, heroic adventure.
