Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival (SketchFest) founders Paul and Julianne Snepsts are proud to welcome back the three award-winning troupes for the annual Best of the Fest Encore Show on Friday, March 5, 2010 at The Second City.
Originally scheduled for February 26th, 2010, festival producers realized Best of the Fest was up against the Olympic hockey semi-finals that night. Out of true patriot love, they pushed the event to March 5. SketchFest will not force Torontonians to choose between our nation’s sport and this not-to-be-missed evening of killer sketch comedy!
The 5th Annual Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival took place November 10-15, 2009 with a week full of top-notch performances, parties and professional development activities. Of the 48 troupes that performed, three emerged victorious. Last Call Cleveland, Haircut and Accidental Company were each granted an award by SketchFest audiences and festival producers.
Last Call Cleveland of Cleveland, Ohio, were named the 2009 Second City Best of the Fest Award winners. They impressed the jury with their brazenly energetic set full of clever video, bold characters and skilful musical comedy. Apparently, Cleveland does rock!
Throughout the festival, audiences voted for their favourite troupes at the end of each showcase to determine the NOW Magazine Audience Choice Award winner. Hometown heroes Haircut (Patrick Smith and Allison Price) take the prize as they won the heart of audiences with their polished and infectiously fun duo-act.
The Steam Whistle Brewing Producers’ Pick Award goes to by Accidental Company of Toronto (Brian Crosby and Jordan Kennedy). Festival producers were impressed by the smart and hilarious character-driven set. This troupe was chosen for presenting a quality show and an enthusiastic attitude to the festival experience.
